Position Overview

Phagein is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Director of bacteriophage drugs to lead our groundbreaking research efforts in developing novel therapies based on bacteriophages.  As a Research Director, you will play a critical role in driving the discovery and development of bacteriophage-based drugs to combat bacterial infections.  You will be responsible for preclinical development, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and supporting the development of new drugs and various pre-market tasks.

Responsibilities

1.Research Strategy and Leadership:

·Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy for bacteriophage drug discovery and development.

·Lead and inspire a team of researchers, providing clear goals and direction to achieve research milestones and objectives.

·Foster a culture of scientific excellence, creativity, and collaboration within the research team.

2.Bacteriophage Isolation and Characterization:

·Identify and prioritize potential therapeutic targets, guiding the selection of appropriate bacteriophage candidates for drug development.

·Lead efforts to characterize bacteriophage properties, including host range, stability, and resistance profiles.

·Develop the bacteriophage products by utilizing relevant strategies such as cocktail therapy and endolysin extraction.

3.Preclinical Studies:

·Design and supervise preclinical studies to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of bacteriophage drugs in relevant animal models and in vitro systems.

·Analyze and interpret experimental data, providing insights for further optimization and refinement of phage therapies.

4.Regulatory Compliance:

·Stay up-to-date with the latest regulatory guidelines and requirements for bacteriophage-based drug development.

·Collaborate with the regulatory affairs team to ensure compliance with relevant regulations during the drug development process.

5.Collaborations and Partnerships:

·Identify and establish strategic collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners to leverage resources and expertise in advancing bacteriophage research.

6.Intellectual Property and Publications:

·Oversee the preparation and submission of patent applications to protect novel discoveries and innovations.

·Author and contribute to scientific publications, conferences.

Qualifications and Requirements

·Ph.D. in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or related fields.

·Extensive experience (8+ years) in bacteriophage research and drug development.

·Proven track record of leading successful research projects and managing teams in a scientific setting.

·Deep understanding of bacteriophage biology, phage-host interactions, and phage-based therapeutic approaches.

·Familiarity with regulatory requirements for drug development and clinical translation.

·Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically evaluate complex scientific data.

·Good organizational and time management skills, able to handle multiple projects and meet urgent deadlines.

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate scientific concepts and findings.  English speaking.

·Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and build productive partnerships.
